About the project: The process for developing the cover for this book was very expansive; there is so much richness and depth to his work that we explored many possibilities before settling on the final. The bright yellow of the cover feels cheerful, but combined with the dark and deflated balloon at the bottom of the cover can also give a sense of anxiety.
“I was so lucky that my publishers contracted Nikkita Cohoon to design the cover of my book. Nikkita asked me to describe the book’s essence—both in words and images. A writer herself, she read the manuscript, seeking what made it tick. After several lengthy conversations, she gave us six genius cover options to consider. Once we chose one, she continued working with the publishers and me to create something we were all thrilled with. Now, everyone who picks up the book compliments her work. I hope that readers do judge my book by its cover.”
