About the project: Shaindel Beers came to me with an existing website she had outgrown, and a new book on the horizon she would need to promote. She wanted web branding that would compliment the book, but still grow with her. She describes her work as "feminist, angry yet hopeful, loving, and fierce" and wanted web branding that could touch on those themes while still welcoming visitors to her site.

With a keen eye, Shaindel often documents her inspirations and surroundings through photography; she thought these nature-based images could provide a nice backdrop to her work and provide a softer ground to some of the darker and edgier themes of her work. Shaindel provided me with several photos, and from those I created a number of hand-inked patterns to further provide a sense of natural and welcoming warmth. The images on her site are softened with a neutral overlay, allowing both photography and graphics to work well together as banners on various pages.

The overall design direction for the site is inspired by a classic and clean sensibility with just a bit of an edge provided by color and contrast to allude to all that is contained in her work. The website is welcoming to meet Shaindel's goal to invite readers in and provide a sense of intimacy, and allow for breathing room to create a showcase for her work.
